44 So come now; let us make a covenant, I and you; and let it be a witness between me and you.
45 So Jacob took a stone and set it up as a pillar.
46 And Jacob said to his brothers, Gather stones. So they took stones and made a heap, and they ate there by the heap.
47 And Laban called it Jegar-sahadutha, but Jacob called it Galeed.
48 And Laban said, This heap is witness between me and you today. Therefore its name was called Galeed
49 And Mizpah, because he said, Jehovah watch between me and you when we are absent from one another.
50 If you afflict my daughters, and if you take wives besides my daughters – even though no man is with us – see, God is witness between me and you.
51 And Laban said to Jacob, Here is this heap, and here is the pillar which I have set between me and you.
52 This heap is a witness, and the pillar is a witness, that I will not pass beyond this heap to you and that you will not pass beyond this heap and this pillar to me, for harm.
53 The God of Abraham and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge between us. And Jacob swore by the Dread of his father Isaac.
54 And Jacob offered a sacrifice on the mountain and called his brothers to eat a meal, and they ate a meal and spent the night in the mountain.
55 And early in the morning Laban rose up and kissed his sons and his daughters and blessed them, and Laban departed and returned to his place.
CHAPTER 32
1 And Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him.
2 And Jacob said when he saw them, This is God’s camp. So he called the name of that place Mahanaim.
3 And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother, into the land of Seir, the field of Edom.
4 And he commanded them, saying, Thus you shall say to my lord Esau: Thus says your servant Jacob, I have sojourned with Laban and stayed until now;
5 And I have oxen and donkeys and flocks, and male servants and female servants; and I have sent to tell my lord this, that I may find favor in your sight.
6 And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to your brother Esau, and he also is coming to meet you; and four hundred men are with him.
7 Then Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed; and he divided the people who were with him and the flocks and the herds and the camels into two camps;
8 And he said, If Esau comes to the one camp and attacks it, then the camp which is left will escape.
9 Then Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham and God of my father Isaac, O Jehovah, who said to me, Return to your country and to your relatives, and I will do you good,
10 I am not worthy of all the lovingkindnesses and of all the faithfulness which You have shown to Your servant, for with my staff only I crossed over this Jordan, and now I have become two camps.
11 Deliver me, please, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau, for I fear him, lest he come and attack me, even the mother with the children.
